It's time to start getting ready for Salesforce.com's next release: Winter '09.
We are now setting up the Pre-release environment and preparing it for regression testing. The tentative date for the testing to begin is September 8th. All partners who submitted an org ID will be receiving an email in the coming weeks detailing where and when they can begin testing. Thanks for everyones participation!
Our goal is to help ISV partners test more efficiently. Instead of partners having to re-create their app from scratch in the Pre-Release environment, you can spend more time testing and optimizing, and less time building and configuring.
Please note: Any changes made to the Pre-Release environment will not be migrated to the production release.
Limitations of the Pre-Release Environment
Please note the following functional limitations in the Pre-Release environment:
- Viewing installed packages
- Viewing the package detail page (developer-side)
- Uploading new package versions
- Managed-released components will no longer appear to be managed in the developer org
- Pre-Release versions of Offline Edition, Office Edition, Outlook Edition, and Wireless Edition are not available.
- Your production versions of Offline Edition, Office Edition, Outlook Edition, and Mobile will not work with the Pre-Release environment.
- Customer Portal is not supported in Pre-Release.
- Several features are by default turned off in the Pre-Release environment, but can be activated by logging a case through Help & Training in your production environment. Some of the affected features are: Multi-Currency, Create Audit Fields, Translation Workbench, Person Accounts, Territory Management, Divisions, and Server Side Mail Merge.
- AppExchange packages will not be available for install.
- Not all batch services run on Winter '09 Pre-Release, such as Data Export and Asynchronous Reports.
